The Cactus Cup: Time to Get Tough

March 10-12, 2017

The Cactus Cup is one of the toughest competitions of its kind in the Country.  Three days of completion, including a 40-mile single day race, will challenge even the most seasoned riders.  Professional teams sponsored by bicycle manufacturers from around the world send their riders to this competition in the hopes that their equipment will emerge victorious.  Both amateur and pro riders compete for daily and over-all cash prizes. Cash purse is $3500.

MBA_1tomac1000Specialized Bikes is the named sponsor of this event, which started in 1991.  Fountain Hills McDowell Mountain Cycles is the Main Stage sponsor for the after-race party, featuring the band, “Elvis Before Noon.”

The race also includes a junior category for Mountain Bike Racers aged 12-18 years old, with a free Specialized branded helmet given to the first 50 youngsters who sign up. This race is for serious bikers, as it covers the full three-day gamut.

The cutest event of the three-day schedule is the “Strider” class race for kids from 2 to 5 years old. These cuties will compete on “Striders”, a unique balance bike designed to make it easy and fun for beginners who will compete for ice cream and prizes.

This event is a spectacular opportunity for action photography.  There is an admission fee for McDowell Mountain Park, but the event is free for spectators.
