August Activities Move Inside Where It’s Cool!

#1 4 peaks morning 008

“How glorious a greeting the Sun gives the Mountains. – John Muir.

August in Arizona is known for its chaotic weather, including our famous dust-laden “Haboob” storms that roll across the Valley. But every morning and evening of the monsoon Fountain Hills is blessed with indescribably spectacular skies.

When we are fortunate enough to have an afternoon shower, our evenings cool down a bit, and Fall seems closer than three months away. Fountain Hills kids start school August 8, so we’ll want to be sure to watch them, just in case they forget they are sharing the road with us!

And please remember to patronize our area businesses in August—shopping local helps keep the variety and convenience of our unique retail and dining options prosperous and successful. Your friends at Sonoran Lifestyle Real Estate invite you to check in to our Blog each month for information on many interesting activities going on in and around the Fountain Hills area.

Summerland Tour 2016 at Fort McDowell Casino

Named one of the Ten best summer Package Tours by Rolling Stone!

#13 -summerland-tour-The 2016 edition features Sugar Ray, Everclear, Lit and Sponge.

Sugar Ray was one of the quintessential rock bands of the 90’s. Musical styles – from dancehall to disco, punk to pure pop – are mixed and matched, resulting in a celebratory, swaggering collection that is distinctively and delightfully Sugar Ray.

Everclear is heavier, darker and more aggressive than ever. And frontman Art Alexakis has never been happier. As familiar as the sound of a jet engine and as visceral as a ride on a speeding motorcycle.

Lit, best known for their hit song “My Own Worst Enemy”, is prepared to both re-excite their longtime fans and win over new ones. Lit incorporates elements of punk, pop, grunge, heavy metal, and alternative.

Sponge is one of the Motor City’s heaviest hitters, gaining international notoriety with their debut album “Rotting Piñata”. With hits like “Plowed” and “Molly (16 Candles),” Sponge received massive airplay on radio stations from coast to coast and MTV. Tickets Starting at $35 | Buy Tickets >

Doors Open 6PM, Show Starts 7PM | This Is an Outdoor Event.

July Heralds the Return of the Monsoon —
Life-giving Rain Clouds Thunder Over the Mountains in Spectacular Array

July #1 Monsoon Sky FHMonsoon Storm watching is almost addictive in the Sonoran Desert Summer. The clouds gather every afternoon…sometimes a welcome veil of misty sun-cover, but most often pile upon pile of towering clouds climb up and over the mountains, bringing the hope of life-giving rain to the welcoming desert.

As the air cools the rain-scented air, we gather on our patios to wonder at the breathtaking color and form playing out across the gathering dusk. And if we’re lucky, the lightning and thunder will produce much-needed rain. At times like these, we can’t help thinking, “If you’re lucky enough to live in Fountain Hills, you’re lucky enough!”

Memorial Day, an American holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors men and women who died while serving in the US Military.  Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official holiday in 1971.  Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades.

VFW Post 7507 is honored to present the ceremony at the Veterans Memorial in Fountain Hills on Monday May 30th at 9AM.

April in Arizona…Sonoran Lifestyle at its Finest

“The best way to pay for a lovely moment is to enjoy it”  Richard Bach

April in Arizona reminds us, “If you’re lucky enough to live in the Sonoran Desert foothills, you’re lucky enough!”

Spring wildflowers are in abundance, sunrises and sunsets are spectacular, and outdoor living, dining and recreation are the order of every sun-filled day. The twilight hours lengthen, patios become our prime living spaces…Life is good in Fountain Hills.

Play It Again Sam

April #2play-it-again-samWoody Allen’s career as a playwright and later actor/director accelerated with the success of his 1968 play, “Play it again Sam.” Fountain Hills Mainstage Theater’s April offering is a “Hilarious… a cheerful romp. Not only are Mr. Allen’s jokes and their follow ups, asides and twists audaciously brilliant, but he has a great sense of character.” – The New York Times

Nominated for 4 Tony awards, the play follows newly divorced playwright Allan Felix who has this thing about Humphrey Bogart. If only he had some of Bogart’s technique… Bookish and insecure with women, Allan’s hero, Bogey comes to the rescue, with a fantastic bevy of beauties played out in hilarious fantasy

sequences. Fixed up by friends with gorgeous women, he’s so awkward that even the mythical Bogey’s patience is tried.

Tickets are available on-line or by calling the Theater, 480-837-9661 ex: 3

Go Wild For Wild Flowers

Free and Easy In Fountain Hills

cactusflower02The spring breezes across the Sonoran Desert are soft and welcoming, scented by the new blooms on the Creosote, Palo Verde, Brittle Bush, and dozens of budding wildflowers. If you are lucky enough to live in the Fountain Hills area, there are dozens of ways to celebrate Spring in the Hills.

Visit Goldfield Ranch

Golfield hikeGoldfield Ranch is a rustic residential area just a few minutes beyond the eastern border of Fountain Hills.  It sits on the eastern slopes of the lower Verde River Basin right off State Highway 87 (Beeline Hwy) just north of the Fort McDowell Casino. It is completely surrounded by the Tonto National Forest, and although the roads are unpaved, they are well maintained, and in the spring the entire area is carpeted with wildflowers.  If you have friends or family who has mobility problems, this is the perfect way to drive through the wildflower bounty of the Sonoran Desert highlands.

Because the climate and topography of Arizona is so diverse, we have a stunning of flowers to enjoy from February through July.  The “Go Wild for Flowers” site will show you what is blooming and where, with beautiful photos depicting the variety of flowers blooming in our region. McDowell Mountain Park, between Fountain Hills and Rio Verde is ablaze with poppies and desert lupine…small fee per car, or you can just pull off the road and enjoy the sights.

Hike the Overlook Trail

Jay Schlum Sunrise 2014Few sights in the world rival sunrise over the mountains in Fountain Hills.  The overlook trail is a short, medium-level hike that provides a stunning view of the sunrise with a glance back to the peach and purple highlights shimmering across Town Lake.  The trail is good for families with small children as the slope is gentle, and there are benches along the way to stop and admire the vistas.

The trail starts across the street from the east parking lot of the Town Lake park, and is marked with a sign designating the trail head.  Wear tennis or closed toe shoes, as the trail is dusty and at some places rocky.  The views are breathtaking and give an accurate perspective of how Fountain Hills is laid out before you.

Stars Light Up Fountain Hills’ Night Skies in December

telescope and starsOne of the quiet wonders of life in Fountain Hills is our beautiful night skies.  Our Sunrise and Sunset moments are without parallel, but our star-brightened night skies are an additional blessing.  The views to the north and east are unhampered by the light reflection of the Valley, and reflect the careful Town planning for continuing to preserve the wonder of dark skies.  But our Fountain Hills Library has made the experience even better.

Thanks to a generous donation, the Fountain Hills Branch Library now has three telescopes available for check out! They can be checked out for one week by an adult and can be renewed up to five times if there are no customers waiting.
