Flying discs of all sorts are the focus in Fountain Hills, this week-end.  First, the nationally prominent disc golf Memorial Championship kicks off in Fountain Park on Wednesday, February 27th, an annual event sponsored by Discraft.

In addition, the International UFO Conference begins February 26, at the Fort McDowell Conference Center.  The Congress is the largest UFO conference in the United States, sponsored by the IUFOC, which was established in 1991 to open a dialogue about UFOs and related phenomena.

Memorial Championship:

The biggest tournament in the West comes back to AZ in 2013! The Memorial Championship presented by Discraft is returning for its 25th year and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. The organization lost one of its premier members recently, prompting the tournament to be dedicated to Sue Ginnelly. Ginnelly was a large promoter of the sport and this particular championship event.

The roster for the week’s activities includes not only some serious golf, but also some serious partying at locations such as Philly’s Sports Bar and Duke’s Sports Bar in Scottsdale…you can see a trend here!

Disc Golf is easy for everyone to play!

You might think there are a bunch of “Frisbee-throwers” just hanging out in the park over the four day event.  But that’s like saying Phil Mickelson is an amateur hacker.  This is THE 2013 Professional Disc Golf Association Memorial Tournament, and the field of 400 professional and amateur participants are serious about their sport.  Contestants sport a full bag of various discs for a variety of uses…long holes, short throws, etc.  They begin at a tee box, with the goal of placing their disc in a suspended basket on the green, many yards away and around obstacles like trees, water features and people.  The Fountain Park course is one of the Valley’s favorites, and is available for all players, young, old, amateur or pro, year round.  But, best not to attempt the course on this particular week-end!
