“Make a Difference Day” is all about helping our neighbors.   Many vulnerable homeowners in our community need help to remain in their homes until their life ends, and the volunteers on Make a Difference Day  use their skills to make that goal obtainable.  Daily activities that most of us take for granted can be impossible for neighbors with physical limitations.

  • Challenges can include cleaning cabinets and shelves that cannot be reached due to physical limitations and therefore are left unclean for years.
  • Minor repairs or landscaping are essential for homeowners who, due to financial and physical burdens, are unable to do for themselves.
  • Projects in Parks and public spaces that are beyond the Town’s current budget possibilities can be accomplished as well.

Groups from service clubs and organizations, the faith community, and Town volunteers make up a large part of the workforce, but each year more and more individuals sign up  to help.  Some people sew, some clean, organize, rake or trim…in short, not special skills are required, just the desire to be a good neighbor to someone in need.

This short USA Today video features some of our volunteers and the impact that a few hours of loving attention can have.  This is becoming an annual tradition for many of our teens and families, so take a moment and sign up to help…you’ll find that you “get more than you give.”

volunteers, and never more so than on our 7th Annual “Make a Difference Day” on Saturday, October 24th.  It is a morning where all residents are invited to help the most vulnerable in our community by providing work service for four hours at designated projects.   We are seeking assistance from residents to come out and show our neighbors that “Fountain Hills is the small town with a big heart!”

Work projects include raking and cleaning up landscaping debris, building wheelchair ramps for  homebound residents, small minor repairs, planting groundcover, painting, tile cleaning, repairing leaks, deep cleaning in kitchens, and more. Volunteers range from Cub and Daisy Scouts to Seniors who are able to provide their services. All interested individuals are encouraged to participate and register.

Those who would like to volunteer for “Make a Difference Day” can do so at the town website, www.fh.az.gov/madd  – registration online is very simple.  Registration forms can also be found at the Community Center and Town Hall kiosks. This is a great opportunity to strengthen ties in our community as well as address existing needs. We all can ‘Make a Difference’! Community Involvement offers Fountain Hills residenets a chance to contribute, meet new friends and remain vital

Fountain Hills is a community of “givers”, and never more so than on our annual “Make a difference Day” on October 27th.  “We reach out to the Faith community, the Area Agency on Aging volunteers who deliver Meals on Wheels, and our “Give a Lift” participants to find individuals who need help,” says Heather Ware, Volunteer Coordinator for the Town of Fountain Hills.  “We invite all individuals and organizations in the area to help us help the most vulnerable in our community.”

Projects are varied, from sprucing up yards to minor home repairs to adding ramps and safety features to a home.  Volunteers range from Cub and Daisy Scouts to Seniors who can do projects ranging from painting and planting to writing Christmas correspondence.  All interested individuals are encouraged to participate or to join one of the teams recruited by area service groups, clubs, and church groups.  Nearly 300 volunteers are expected to turn out for this popular event.

Volunteering is one of the ways newcomers to Fountain Hills get to know the community.  Literally hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours make it possible for us to have a spectacular Community Theater, Museum, Senior Center, Parks and Recreation sports and education offerings, and Greening of Downtown beautification program.  “Make a Difference Day” is unique in that gives individuals who work outside Fountain Hills a chance to spend time with friends and family give back to the community they love.
