Fountain Hills’ Docent Led Art Walks: The Key to a Spectacular Public Collection!

Fountain Hills Spectacular Art Collection Comes Alive With Interactive Docent-led Tours

Fountain Hills’ Public Art Collection is one of the largest and most interesting collections in the Southwest. Assembled over a span of 10 years, the 144 piece collection graces the pedestrian-friendly heart of the Town.

Lynn's GardenFrom October through May, four separate docent-led tours are available on different days and times:

Centennial Circle Tour 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.

Fountain Park Tour 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Flat Art Tour 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.

Community Center/Library Tour 9:00 – 10:30 a.m.

Spanning an amazing array of styles, the powerful collection is even more striking when viewed within Arizona’s natural desert beauty. It is important to note that all of the pieces are paid for by private donation, and are placed and cared for by the Town. The volunteer docents enhance the art experience with their knowledge and insight. These tours are a grand way to share Fountain Hills with visitors, and club and group outings are welcomed.

Centennial Circle #1The plaza between the Community Center and the Library/Museum complex contains the Centennial Circle sculpture garden.  Additionally, dozens of bronzes, murals, paintings, photography, and three-dimensional art are displayed inside the River of Time Museum, the Community Center, the Library and Town Hall.  Most of the sculptures in this part of the collection have QR codes, which enables you to use your I-Phone to hear the narration for a self-tour at your own pace.

Small FOUNTAIN SPIRIT by Kevin RobbThe newly-revamped Avenue of the Fountains is home to a number of familiar pieces, and 6 additional sculptures are slated for selection and placement in 2016-17.  The majestic Fountain Spirit is the latest addition to the collection that shimmers in the reflection of our glorious winter sun.

The Fountain Park docent tour circles Town Lake, and includes a pass by our “Fount Rushmore,” featuring the likeness of Teddy Roosevelt, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln. Many of the whimsical pieces near the playground invite touching and exploring by little ones for an introduction to art they will long remember.

My buddyFlat Art Tours at the in the Community Center area are held on Wednesdays only, and the dates and times for the all tours may vary with weather and Town event considerations.

“Community Expo” Festivities Spotlights Local Business
Chamber Expo BannerThe Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Community Expo on October 28, 2015, in the Community Center. Nearly 100 local business people will be there to tell you about their businesses so you can be better prepared to “buy local.”

This is a great way for a new business to gain an audience from local consumers, and established business people have the opportunity to network with other local service providers. Last year more than 2,000 attendees learned about the business resources in Fountain Hills, and enjoyed dozens of free giveaways and raffle prizes. This year we expect even more attendees introducing their goods and services to the community.

Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to learn about the breadth of Fountain Hills business resources in a fun and energetic atmosphere.  Shopping and dining locally helps sustain the variety of goods and services we have at our doorstep.

Fountain Hills Community CenterFood sampling is a highlight of the afternoon, and this year’s offerings will include Phil’s Filling Station, Sofrita, The Hill’s Pizza and Dessert, FireRock, and Little Caesar’s.

Fountain Hills Homecoming Parade is Wednesday, September 30th. Stop by Sonoran Lifestyle Real Estate for beverages, snacks & a front row seat!!

No other Town has “Community Spirit” quite like Fountain Hills, and the Falcon’s annual Homecoming parade celebrates that spirit in grand style!  Hundreds of Falcon fans don their Royal Blue shirts and line the Avenue of the Fountains to celebrate our town’s talented Fall Sports Teams.  Our award winning band, accompanied by this year’s Cheer and Flag troops are as good as you will find anywhere, and will undoubtedly underscore this year’s theme ‘California Dreamin.’  Each float is more unique than the last, representing hundreds of hours of volunteer time by our student clubs, sponsors and volunteers.

Little ones rocket out of the crowd to gather the candy thrown from the floats and marching groups, then scramble back to the curb to get ready for the next delight in line.  Scout troops, firemen, street performers, and of course, our local heroes of the hour—the 2015 Falcon Varsity Football squad—the toast of the pep rally to follow.

falconThen, for a real jolt of community pride, come cheer on the team at the annual Homecoming Game on Friday, October 2nd against Casa Grande.  For more Fall Sports schedules, go to Falcon Calendar.

Sonoran Lifestyle Real Estate is the center of Homecoming activities on the Avenue of the Fountain, with beverages and snacks served from 5:00 pm.   Invite your neighbors to dig out their royal blue ‘T’ shirt, join us for the best curb-side view on the Avenue, and pick up Sonoran’s updated 2015 Real Estate Market Report. In light of the changes in the market this year, Fall is an excellent time to make an appointment with your Realty advisor at Sonoran to review the Real Estate portion of your portfolio before year-end.

Yes, that’s a pink tutu on Fountain Hills Former Mayor Jay Schlum!!

What could be more fun than seeing Fountain Hills’ Former Mayor, Jay Schlum in a tutu, you ask?  Not much!

Come to the Tutu Preview on Friday, October 2nd, at Sonoran Lifestyle Real Estate and join us as we toast the Fall entertainment season.  Who knows…maybe, just maybe, you’ll get a glimpse of a Grand Battement or a perfectly executed Plie  (not likely, but it will be entertaining, regardless!)  Our Annual Tutu Preview offers an assortment of wine and hors d’oeuvres plus a great opportunity to catch up with friends after the long summer and make plans for the exciting season ahead.

This year, we are hosting live music by The Art of Music, one of Fountain Hills favorite entertainment groups featuring Leslie and Ukiah Odum.  Their eclectic repertoire ranges from renaissance and classical to jazz, and always makes a gathering just bit more special.

Then, at 7:00, plan to head down to Ballet Under the Stars, a free presentation in Fountain Park by Ballet Arizona.  We’ll have cool water packs to take along, but suggest you bring a blanket or chairs to really enjoy the evening.

During “Tutu Preview” you’ll also have the opportunity to see the awesome plans for Park Place, the new downtown development featuring both residential and retail development.  Park Place is now underway with the Morning Star Senior Living Campus slated to open in late 2016.  And, if our awesome, local theater is of interest to you, we’ll have the Fountain Hills Theater folks available to sell tickets to the upcoming season.

So, call a friend you haven’t seen in a while and bring them along for a delightful prelude to one of Fountain Hills’ most memorable cultural events.
