Community is Humming with Innovative Cultural Offerings
Fountain Hills has a rich variety of Free and Easy cultural offerings every month, but the choices this January are exceptional. Interested in our Salt River Mustangs? Fountain Hills Library Programs:
The Fountain Hills Library is not your Grandma’s musty book and “shsssh—quiet please” kind of place. In the more traditional mode, they offer a multitude of free classes and resources, ranging from abundant computer access, free use of books, movies and even e-books for your e- readers. A complete schedule of programs for kids and adults are available.
But we have an added “super-power…The Fountain Hills Friends of the Library, who sponsor regular book talks, films and musical concerts.
On January 21, 2016, The Horse Lover will be discussed by authors Alan Day, brother to former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, and Lynn Weise Sneyd. The book chronicles Day’s journey to establish the first Government-sponsored Wild Horse Sanctuary for unadoptable wild horses. For anyone who is interested in the on-going saga of our near-by Salt River horses, this si a wonderful opportunity to learn in depth facts about this very “western” dilemma. 2-3 p.m. in the Community Center.
Another notable Film sponsored by the Friends of the Library in January is Code Girl a full length film documentary —Exclusive in Arizona—and of special interest to “Tweens” who are interested in technology and coding as a career path.
By 2017, the app market will be valued at $77 Billion. Over 80% of these developers are male. The Technovation Challenge aims to change that by empowering girls worldwide to develop apps for an international competition. CODEGIRL follows teams who dream of holding their own in the world’s fastest-growing industry. The winning team gets $10K to complete and release their app, but every girl discovers something valuable along the way. Join high school-aged girls from around the world as they try to better their community through technology and collaboration in this thrilling, heartfelt documentary. Saturday, January 16, 2-4 p.m. at the Community Center.

The Fountain Hills Juried Art Show showcases area artists is one of the most anticipated events of the year in Fountain Hills. Enjoy these inspiring pieces on exhibition throughout the Community Center from January 6- 28, 2016.

The Emerson Art Gallery, Fountain Hills newest Art Gallery, features the work of 20 artists, and offers a variety of classes. This cozy Gallery is also the venue for Jazz in the Hills throughout the winter and spring months.

Fountain Hills Artist’s Gallery is a 40-artist cooperative located in the heart of Downtown Fountain Hills. Elegant jewelry by a variety of artists is truly wearable art, but the constantly changing collection is rewarding with each visit. 10-5 p.m. daily
Fountain Park Fitness and Art Walk:
Fountain Park is the heart of the Town, with a 64 acre recreational area encompassing 1.25 miles of walking paths, two children’s playgrounds, a splash park, 18 holes of disc golf, restrooms, entertainment pavilion, and nearly half of the Town’s public Art collection. Hundreds of residents and guests walk the loop around our namesake Fountain several times a week. Visitors love taking pictures of the Fountain against the backdrop of the surrounding mountains. The interesting sculpture in this inspiring setting is a joy, and guided docent-led tours are also available.
